"Cascadian black metal" is a sort of poetical and musical wave mainly started by band like Agalloch and Wolves in the throne room (two pillars yet holding the scene with a discography that shounds better each year it's getting older). They impressed the minds of lot of musicians, not only from Oregon and nearby states. Same as for the Romanticism, we can speak not only (and not mainly) about a geographical placement of this movement but almost about a way to feel nature and life. It corresponds also to a new way to intend black metal, as bringer of new feelings and opened t new contaminations different from the avantgarde. Harrow are from Canada and when I met them I was searching for a band with a personal approach to this genre. The risk of finding Always something one has already listened in the music of other bands was high but with Harrow I felt immediately a strong personality and a true, sincere way to intend this emotional universe we would define as "cascadian". If I should find a comparison I would think without doubt to ALDA, because I find there in Harrow music, the same telluric approach in vocals and music. Otherside the difference is that Harrow's music is a way more oriented to some light folk and post rock influences. Here you can feel the light of the fire in the night and in the same way breathe the harsh vocals as something primordial, coming from a telluric need that lies in our ancient being. When a band belonging to this emotional universe is able to make me feeling this telluric need well, I've found good vibes for my ears. Fallow fields is the album I was searching for. Very porud and glad to see it's licensed here by an italian label.
