Cet opus audacieux marque une évolution majeure dans la discographie du groupe avec l?intégration d?éléments électroniques et d?influences rock alternatif qui tranchent avec leurs ?uvres précédentes. Porté par des titres phares comme « Numb », « Lemon » ou encore « Stay (Faraway, So Close!) », Zooropa reflète l?esprit de l?Europe du début des années quatre-vingt-dix tout en abordant les thèmes de la technologie moderne et de l?aliénation humaine mêlée à un souffle d?espoir inédit pour le groupe à cette époque-là. L?album a été salué par la critique pour son originalité et récompensé aux Grammy Awards comme meilleur album alternatif en 1994.
U2 s?impose depuis plus de quarante ans comme un pilier incontournable de la scène musicale internationale grâce à ses hymnes puissants et ses textes engagés socialement : formé à Dublin en 1976, le groupe totalise plus de cent soixante-dix millions d?albums vendus dans le monde ainsi que vingt prix Grammy parmi bien d?autres distinctions majeures ; on leur doit notamment les tubes planétaires « With or Without You », « One » ou encore « Beautiful Day ».

|  | Alexander S. - 21/06/2020  There are things on the album that for me in terms of innovation are just a squeak, the same "Zooropa", "Numb", "Lemon" or "The First Time". "Some Days Are Better Than Others" I even sometimes hum under my breath ;-) Well, "Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car" is a classic for those who understand what it is about. But why was it needed on the Johny Cash album? Or why this straightforward "Babyface" was needed. And "Stay" is a terrible snotty mess, in general.
The video for "Zoo TV" presents half of the songs from this album, and I agree - the live versions of them are simply unique. And the conceptual album itself is a very branded, branded release. And I was imbued with it, believe me :-) It just does not have a skeleton, there is no ideological component of the album. As I wrote above, this is a kind of "Rattle & Hum", a recording inspired by a world tour. In many ways, it does not reach the painstaking studio work and sorting tracks.
