Description: | The centerpiece of this album is Cooman's textured Fourth Symphony which like the album is titled Liminal. The word liminal means 'on the edge' or 'on the brink of change' and Cooman applies this both thematically and musically to the Earth and climate change, and also to all modern cultures with their tenuous connections with the past, present and future. The work is written for full orchestra and two harps, one of which is tuned down by a microtone, which adds an extra tension and layer to the piece. Shoreline Rune, is dedicated to composer Judith Weir on her 60th birthday. , and the organ piece Prism performed by Erik Simmons on the organ of Martinikerk, Doesburg, in the Netherlands.Tracks 1 & 2 recorded August 22, 2014 at Slovak Radio Studio, Bratislava.
Track 3 recorded October 6, 2014. |
