Description:
Concerto Grossi After Scarlatti by Concerto Koln, released 1 October 2015.
This version of Concerto Grossi After Scarlatti comes as a 1xCD. - CONCERTO KOLN
For their new release, Concerto Köln takes us to England and to the composer Charles Avison's milestone arrangements of Domenico Scarlatti's harpsichord sonatas and a marker in British music history. While Avison is hardly mentioned in the Classical canon, the rise of historic period performance practice has drawn attention to his works. Multiply talented, he was known more in his lifetime as an ascerbic critic regularly assailing his popular colleagues of the day including Vivaldi and Handel. Scarlatti was among the composers Avison meted out praise for and his Concertos, inspired by his respect for Scarlatti, are here performed by one of the leading ensembles in the field of historical performance practice. Concerto Köln's passionate and scholarly approach forms the foundation of a gorgeous realizing of these works.
