Es war also höchste Zeit für die erste Reise in den Fernen Osten. Vier Monate nach Veröffentlichung von TAKEN BY FORCE traf die Gruppe 1978 in Tokio ein. Vier Konzerte standen auf dem Programm, jeweils eines in Osaka und Nagoya und zwei in Tokios Nakano Sun Plaza. Diese beiden Shows wurden für das Live-Doppelalbum TOKYO TAPES mitgeschnitten, das auch als Abschiedsgeschenk für den scheidenden Uli Jon Roth gedacht war.
