Description:Ilimaq is an album by John Luther Adams, released in 2015. The album is a Cd+Dvd classical 2-CD. - GLENN KOTCHE
Grammy-winning composer John Luther Adams always speaks with reverence about capturing the tone within the noise, and if any of his recent work can be said to take this mission directly to heart, it's Ilimaq. A true electro-acoustic recording that channels the energy, passion and precision of Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche, Ilimaq (which loosely translates from the native Alaskan Inupiaq language as spirit journeys) maps a vivid, phantasmagorical progression through cascades and firestorms of percussion, otherworldly ambient soundscapes, harmonic dissonance, melodic convergence and plenty more in the musical and sonic spaces between.
Instrumental and electroacoustic soundscape. "Ilimaq was commissioned by Texas Performing Arts at the University of Texas, Walker Art Center, Stanford Live at Stanford University, and Duke Performances at Duke University. Special thanks to Scott Deal for his indispensable contributions to the long evolution of Ilimaq." Packaged in a six-panel card cover with a four-page booklet. DVD contains the same material in Stereo and 5.1 Surround audio with a series of static images. Photography: Dennis Keeley, from the series "In between Something and Nothing". ----- 'Ilimaq' loosely translates from the native Alaskan Inupiaq language as ?spirit journey?.
