Description:Dmitri Hvorostovsky's fourth release on Ondine features a program of rarely recorded sonnets by Dmitri Shostakovich and Franz Liszt. Hvorostovsky is accompanied by his longtime duo partner, the Estonian pianist Ivari Ilja. Liszt's sonnets are based on love poems by the Italian Renaissance write Petrarch. This record, like all Hvorostovsky‘s records, radiates an inmense spiritual maturity, intellect, subtlety and stunning masterliness. It is a perfectly complected CD containing a strong, specific, enchanting atmosphere which gives you an opportunity to hear Shostakovich‘s and Liszt‘s masterpieces sung by undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary and charismatic baritones of all the times. Hvorostovsky perfectly manipulates his intonations, puts emotional accents and fills the pieces with an incredible refinement, also enriching the music with his mental images, inner glints and reflections of his thoughts. This disc is saturated with such spirituality and such a hope that they invade all the space around you: both you room and your inner world.
