Description:

Before opening at London' Fortune Theatre on 10th May 1961 the Beyond the Fringe cast had a try-out with a one week run at Cambridge's Arts Theatre from 24th-29th April. This is a recording of the Cambridge show recorded on 24th April, their first night, in front of a very enthusiastic and appreciative mostly student audience. It can now be heard for first time for 50 years. Over two hours of material, including 9 previously unreleased sketches which did not make the London run for either editorial reasons, or the Lord Chamberlain's disapproval. One in particular, 'Under Canvas' gives US a foretaste of what Cook & Moore would produce for their later TV show 'Not Only But Also'.
