Fronted by gorgeous pop-nymph Jill Jackson, Speedway are the latest must-hear act from Scotland. Essentially a duo (keyboardist & drummer Jim Duguid co-writes all the songs with Jackson) the band have been augmented by Dan Sells (guitar) & Tom Swann (bass) for their live sound - creating a traditional female-fronted band dynamic that should see them mentioned in the same breathe as the Pretenders & the Eurythmics before too long. Their debut album is jam-packed with cracking pop-rock anthems that will form the ideal backdrop to rom-coms & girlie dramas throughout 2004. Second single 'Can't Turn Back' is a hustling American-style rocker reminiscent of Alannah Myles whilst 'Thinking About You Lately' recalls the dizzy brilliance of Texas. Elsewhere 'Walk on By' is epic romanticism & 'Always Here' is a requisite slow closer. A magnificent album that shocks with it's maturity, composure & downright rockingness. Speedway are on the fast track to success. Asian edition of 2004 album features 14 tracks including 1 bonus track 'Genie in a Bottle' (Christina Aguilera cover). Copy Controlled. Universal.
