With her debut full-length CD, Sorrow Bound (Kingswood Records), Kaia Kater is being lauded as one of the youngest performers in the roots scene. Her old-time banjo-picking skills, deft arrangements, and song- writing abilities have landed her in the national spotlight on both Canadian and American soil. Sorrow Bound includes a song in French from the Quebecois tradition, several traditional ballads with perfect Appalachian banjo accompaniment, and many compositions of her own-although such is her understanding of the genre that they are nearly indistinguishable from the traditional songs.
