Description:In the twenty years since his death the star of the Polish-born Moscow-based Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-96) has risen rapidly: his music - a highly individual amalgam of the Jewish idioms of his youth and the style of his mentor and friend Dmitry Shostakovich - is now seen as one of the most distinctive contributions to twentieth-century music. This further installment in the Toccata Classics examination of his output couples a mature dance-based score - not performed before this recording - with his last symphony, orchestrated after his death by the composer Kirill Umansky.
The CD "Sinfonie 22/Choreographic Symphony" features the Siberian Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Dmitry Vasilyev, presenting two captivating works that showcase both orchestral brilliance and expressive depth. The album includes Sinfonie No. 22 by a notable composer, paired with an evocative Choreographic Symphony, offering listeners a journey through dynamic musical landscapes and rich textures. Toccata Classics, renowned for its commitment to uncovering rare and overlooked repertoire, delivers another gem for classical music enthusiasts with this release. Dmitry Vasilyev is recognized as one of Russia?s most promising conductors of his generation. As principal conductor of the Siberian Symphony Orchestra (Siberian SO), he has led numerous acclaimed performances across Russia and internationally. Under his leadership, the orchestra has gained recognition for its vibrant interpretations and technical excellence in both traditional masterpieces and contemporary works. Toccata Classics is a distinguished British label dedicated to bringing lesser-known composers and neglected works into the spotlight. Their catalog spans a wide range of genres within classical music, earning praise from critics worldwide for their adventurous programming and high production standards.
