Reissue Of 1983 Album W/ Bonus Tracks |
 | | Description: | Medway garage band the Prisoners are loved by a legion of fans, including quite a few who went on to be in successful bands themselves. Those who saw them live speak in reverential terms, yet they never sold records in large amounts and their gigs, whilst packed, were almost always in small venues.
â??Thewisermiserdemelzaâ? â?? an excellent embodiment of their British R&B-influenced sound â?? falls into an odd place in their career. They often professed to be unhappy with the album, yet their first-generation fans cherish it, particularly songs such as â??Hurricaneâ??. It was recorded in 1983 for Ace Recordsâ?? Big Beat label and produced by Phil Chevron â?? a new experience for the band, who self-released their first album, â??A Taste Of Pinkâ?.
The record shows the growing complexity of their music â?? the contrast in the influences between 1964 and 1966 (the rougher R&B moving into nascent psychedelia). It is a cracking listen from beginning to end. The fast tracks such as â??Hurricaneâ??, â??Love Me Liesâ?? and â??Somewhereâ?? are coruscating, whilst the beautiful â??Tonightâ?? offers an insight into other directions that the band would take.
180g transparent orange vinyl. - REISSUE OF 1983 ALBUM W/BONUS TRACKSIt's over 25 since we released the Prisoner's psychedelic masterpiece and it's high time it was given a bit of a spruce up to make it fit for 2016. This is the definitive reissue of their 1983 album, featuring all the tracks the group recorded for Big Beat in 1983. It includes the original album, the tracks from the "Electric Fit" EP, the Prisoners' track from the "Four On Four" EP, and the bonus cuts originally released on the US album "Revenge Of The Prisoners", including version two of 'Revenge of The Cybermen' which hasn't been reissued since. The Prisoners were part of the Medway garage scene of the 1980s and were an influence on dozens of bands: from the Charlatans to the White Stripes. They were named by the NME as one of the great lost bands. The CD comes with extensive liner notes, culled from interviews with all the band members and producer Philip Chevron of the Pogues and Radiators From Space. The original analogue sound recordings, from which the digital re-masters are owned by Ace Records Ltd.
