This new wave of Tuareg musicians sound very different to the desert distortion that accompanies groups like Mdou Moctar or Group Inerane. Instead, it finds a calm and passionate soul, provides sumptuous slow burners, and a complexity of composition that hasn't been demonstrated by previous music exported from the Saharan people's musical repertoire."Imarhan" is the self-titled debut LP by the Algerian Tuareg band Imarhan, released on City Slang. This album introduces listeners to a fresh take on desert blues, blending traditional Saharan rhythms with modern influences and soulful melodies. The record features hypnotic guitar work, heartfelt vocals, and intricate percussion that evoke both the vastness of the Sahara and contemporary urban life. Imarhan?s music explores themes of identity, community, and resilience while remaining deeply rooted in their cultural heritage. City Slang, an acclaimed independent label based in Berlin since 1990, is known for its diverse roster of innovative artists across genres such as indie rock, electronic music, and world sounds?making it a fitting home for Imarhan's boundary-pushing sound. | | No. of tracks: |
