Oddly enough, I didn’t really like the music of this Canadian rock band before. But it was by buying and listening to this album that I changed my mind. This is a super band. And this is their eighteenth studio album, released in 2007.

After Neil Peart recovered from his personal tragedy and Rush returned to working together, the band released a tough semi-alternative album, Vapor Trails, and a selection of Feedback covers, which received conflicting reviews from critics. But the album Snakes & Arrows following them, it seems, could not leave anyone unhappy at all. Expressive guitarist Alex Lifeson immediately dubbed him the best album Rush. If you look more objectively, he still does not exceed the recognized masterpieces of the group like "2112" or "Moving Pictures", but nevertheless he can be put among their best works. "Snakes & Arrows" can be safely called the classic Rush album. Superbly recorded and produced, literally packed with hits, truly progressive and at the same time devoid of any tediousness, he simply cannot leave the listener indifferent. On the album we hear the classic Rush of the 70s, but in a modern sound. From the very first sounds of "Far Cry" the music is completely captivating and does not release until the very end of the album. It is moderately heavy and moderately sophisticated. The musicians continue the trend of their latest albums and again use almost no keyboards. And you can say nothing about the performance - the fact that Rush are one of the most virtuoso groups in the world is a well-known fact. Gaddy Lee sings in the same boyish voice, not subject to the times, although he is already well over 50. All the songs are simply magnificent, but some of which I would like to especially note. This is the opening action movie "Far Cry"; the sad philosophical composition "The Larger Bowl", written by Peart at a time when he was trying to recover from the death of his daughter and wife and traveled around the country on a motorcycle; blues ballad "The Way The WInd Blows"; and the absolutely demolishing instrumental "Malignant Narcissism" with a simply incomparable bass part (by the way, this composition was even nominated for a Grammy). Although the album contains sad things, on the whole it is done in bright optimistic tones and should charge the listener with a positive. In a word, "Snakes & Arrows" is definitely worth it to be heard. It can be recommended to a wide audience - lovers of prog, hard rock, and rock in general. Listen and enjoy!

An Anthem digipack edition of the album from the Canadian progressive rock trio recorded in 2007. More hard than most other their works but definitely recognizable. Not a masterpiece but worth listening to.

Snakes and arrows is rush's end age album. My favorite song is armor and sword / Malignant Narcissism / the way the wind blows.
