Description:Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. On Ella Fitzgerald -Mack The Knife: Ella In Berlin, the 43-year-old Ella rolls through her typical routine in feisty fashion on this 1960 recording, which documents the opening show of her European tour. There's the Satchmo impersonation (a joyous "Mack the Knife"), the lengthy scat showcase ("How High the Moon"), and a bevy of Gershwin and Porter tunes. Supported by pianist Paul Smith's quartet, Ella's voice sounds earthier than usual and her phrasing is as appealing as ever. She's tender on "Misty" and sultry on "Too Darn Hot." Ella is often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz and Lady Ella. She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing., Runningtime: 00:00:00, Art Direction: Merle Shore, Backing Band [Accompanied By]: Paul Smith Quartet, Bass: Wilfred Middlebrooks, Cover: Jay Thompson (4), Drums: Gus Johnson, Guitar: Jim Hall, Lacquer Cut By: Marko Kluge (2), Piano: Paul Smith (5), Producer, Liner Notes: Norman Granz, Vocals: Ella Fitzgerald, Written-By: Allie Wrubel, Written-By: Herbert Magidson, Written-By: Erroll Garner, Written-By: Johnny Burke, Written-By: Lorenz Hart, Written-By: Richard Rodgers, Written-By: George Gershwin, Written-By: Ira Gershwin, Written-By: DuBose Heyward, Written-By: George Gershwin, Written-By: Ira Gershwin, Written-By: Cole Porter, Written-By: George Gershwin, Written-By: Ira Gershwin, Written-By: Bertolt Brecht, Written-By: Kurt Weill, Written-By: Morgan Lewis, Written-By: Nancy Hamilton, Labelcode 5352710 (MG V-4041, 006007535271108, 006007535271108), Copyright (c) The Verve Music Group, Recorded At Deutschlandhalle, Pressed By Optimal Media Production, Lacquer Cut At Optimal Media Production
