| Description: | George Jones has been called "Possum, " "No Show Jones, " and the "Rolls Royce of Country Singers." Whatever you call him, George Jones will go down in history as the notorious fast-livin', hard-drinkin' country superstar who charted 168 songs during his illustrious career, more than any other recording artist in history. George Jones eventually left his wilder side behind. In the meantime, Jones' countless honors and accolades just kept growing. Those honors include his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, to name a few. Jones' vast legacy of music includes 270 songs that he recorded from 1965-1971 for Musicor Records, 29 of which were hits. Moe Lytle, the founder of Gusto Records in Nashville, now owns George Jones' Musicor recordings. On this collection, Gusto Records has compiled 20 songs from Jones' original Musicor recordings. Several of these songs have rarely been released, making them a special find. Each song was digitally mastered by ace sound engineer, Snake Reynolds. In addition to the rare George Jones' recordings on this collection, it also includes Jones' Top-10 hit from 1957 titled "Don't Stop The Music, " his #28-hit from 1962, "You're Still On My Mind, "?and his classic #16-hit from 1962, "Accidentally On Purpose." Jones also sings his impressive versions of some great country music standards such as Porter Wagoner's "Green, Green Grass Of Home, " Merle Haggard's "Mama's Hungry Eyes, " and Roger Miller's "King Of The Road." Jones takes those songs and makes them his own. On April 16, 2012, the beloved star passed away at age 81. |
