Description:Sorceress is an album by Opeth, released in 2016. The album is a Digipak speed/thrash/death metal 2-CD. -
2016 release, the 12th full-length album from the Swedish rockers. Since the early '90s, Opeth have stretched the boundaries of heavy music. From the progressive death metal the band began with to the records like Blackwater Park and the band's recent record, 2014's Pale Communion, Opeth has continually invited their growing audience along with them as they grew into the musically respected band they are today. There are few bands that can or will match Sweden's Opeth. Since forming in the tiny Stockholm suburb of Bandhagen in 1990, the Swedes have eclipsed convention, defiantly crushed the odds, and become one of the best bands on the planet; on album or on stage. Ask any Opeth fan. Enquire with any band that's shared the proverbial pine with the Swedes. Or, get a label representative to talk Opeth. They'll all tell you the same thing: Opeth are peerless. And they're only getting better.
The most noticible differences in this edition are: Parchment paper sheet is blank. Autographs are on a large postcard. Numbered certificate is business card size. On the rear of the CD digipak, the Nuclear Blast and Moderbolaget logos are next to each other. Limited edition wooden boxset including: - 2CD Digipak Edition of Sorceress - 5.1 DVD (Dolby Digital only) in Cardsleeve - LP1 on Rosewood Vinyl + LP2 on Silver Vinyl with gatefold cover - Pen in shape of a peacock's feather - Note pad - Fold out poster - 3D picture of cover artwork - 12" photo card with a band photo on one side and the cover art on the other side - Autographed postcard - Numbered business card sized certificate - Blank sheet of parchment paper Nuclear Blast mailorder exclusive. I have dvd 5.1 version of this album. 5.1 audio is so expensive but it is worth to pay to buy.

An excellent 6-page digipack for 2 discs with an envelope for the booklet in the center, but not with the image on the discs, only with the logo. The sound is great.

“Sorceress” is the twelfth studio album by the Stockholm based Swedish progressive metal band OPETH. Recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and produced by the British sound-engineer Tom Dalgety, it was released on 30 September 2016 via Nuclear Blast Records and the band's own imprint Moderbolaget. The band’s line-up on “Sorceress” is similar to that one working on “Pale Communion” in 2012-2014: Mikael Åkerfeldt (vocals, guitars), Fredrik Åkesson (guitars, backing vocals), Martín Méndez (bass guitar), Martin Axenrot (drums, percussion), and Joakim Svalberg (keyboards, percussion, backing vocals). With “Sorceress” the band further consolidated their transition towards epic melodic Prog-Rock/Metal leaving all Death-Metal influences behind them. The music incorporates the elements of Art-Rock, Folk, Classic Rock, and even World-Fusion melting together both electric and acoustic sounds. The tracks showcase plaintive piano or acoustic guitar prologues, complex compositional developments, intricate dynamic shifts, lush string arrangements, strong riffs, solid groves, and gorgeous organ-guitars duels. There are no metallic fury or death growls even at the most bombastic and savage sections of the songs. Åkerfeldt uses only clean melodic singing throughout the album or even soft-spoken voicing over mellower passages. As well as the progressive character of the songs unfolds primarily via his intelligent songwriting. Yes, OPETH are becoming less and less Metal, more discreet and elegant melodically. It’s not a problem at all. However, I have to admit that the band is somehow wasting its individuality as the nostalgic nods to the Giants of the 70’s Prog-Rock became too obvious. Limited edition of the album comes as a double-disc set: “Sorceress” itself (11 tracks, 57 minutes) and a bonus disc (34 minutes) which contains 2 non-album tracks and 3 live tracks recorded on September 19th, 2015 at The Ancient Roman Amphitheater, Plovdiv, Bulgaria with The Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s quite a worthy addition to the studio album, I have to say.

Ivica S. - 01/Apr/2018 5 of 5 Stars!
This new album for Opeth is probably their best album - the price is great for 2cd - recommended

Evripidis T. - 29/Jan/2018 5 of 5 Stars!
The atmosphere in this album is claustrophobic and Opeth continue their adventures in the progressive rock world with little hints of their metal past!
