Zuma is a minor masterpiece, but it is arguably the first record since his debut that is not quite ‘essential.’ The relatively meandering “Danger Bird” is not up to the standards of typical ‘70’s Crazy Horse workouts, and “Pardon My Heart” lacks Neil’s classic sense of melody. Unfortunately, they are the second and third songs, respectively.
