" Kodama" is the fifth studio album by French band Alcest, released in 2016 on CD format by Prophecy Productions. This record marks a return to Alcest's signature blend of shoegaze and black metal, often referred to as "blackgaze," while drawing inspiration from Japanese culture and Hayao Miyazaki?s film "Princess Mononoke." The album features atmospheric soundscapes, ethereal melodies, and dynamic contrasts that showcase Alcest's unique ability to merge intensity with dreamlike beauty. Standout tracks like ?Kodama? and ?Oiseaux de Proie? highlight the band's evolution while staying true to their roots. Alcest was founded in 2000 by multi-instrumentalist Neige (Stéphane Paut) and has become one of the most influential acts in post-black metal. Their previous albums such as "Écailles de Lune" and "Les Voyages de l'Âme" have received critical acclaim for pioneering a genre-defying sound that blends aggression with serenity.
