Fen was formed in 2006 in London and quickly gained recognition for pioneering a unique style often referred to as ?atmospheric black metal? or ?post-black metal.? Fen are back with long, hard to listen but fully worthy studio album. Half of the songs would have been already a standalone single release. Quality of lyrics and music structures are high. We are not close to more genuine and ruvid (mixing) masterpiece "Epoch". In fact Winter is appearing under the sign of a more refined mixing work with clearer sounds of single instrument. On other side we are not going to lose the Groove, the mixture of "living sounds" and a certain black metal approach we loved in the past. Post rock influences are still there, heavier than before but this too does not mean Fen have lost their path. Winter is a trip of words and music passages. An intriguing even if not so immediate piece of work.
