With an avid following from the days in his former band Gomez, A Man Apart is
singer/songwriter Ben Ottewellâ??s third solo offering and follows his albums Shapes and
Shadows and Rattlebag. The album is a record that crosses musical genres such as
Americana, blues and folk backed by Benâ??s unmistakable gutsy and gravelly voice. Cowritten
with childhood friend and former Tunng member, Sam Genders, the album was
recorded in Los Angeles and Sheffield and engineered and produced in the latter by Martin
Smith (Richard Hawley). -
2017 solo album from former Gomez vocalist Ben Ottewell. A Man Apart -It could refer to his solo career away from Gomez, or to the crazy populist politics demagogues and thugs that seem to rule our world right now, Ben's potent and ongoing love-affair with Americana - and flecked with trace elements of what you might loosely call Derbyshire folk - A Man Apart sounds like the first solo album he has made without some kind of Gomez project lurking in the background.
