| | Description: | Familia: Tribute to Bebo & Chico brings together two influential families in Afro-Cuban music in a celebration of their late patriarchs: pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader Bebo Valdés and composer, arranger and bandleader Chico O´Farrill. Itâ??s a multi-generational tribute led by Arturo Oâ??Farrill and Chucho Valdés â?? their sons, who are major Latin jazz figures in their own right â?? and also featuring the next generation, including pianist Leyanis Valdés, drummer Jessie Valdés, trumpeter Adam O´Farrill (recemt winner of the Monk competition) and drummer Zack O´Farrill.
â??This project is a tribute to two of the greatest musical geniuses in the history of Afro Cuban music and jazz,â? said Chucho Valdés. Quite naturally, heâ??s speaking of his father, composer and pianist Bebo Valdés (1918-2013), and Arturo Oâ??Farrillâ??s father, composer and bandleader Chico Oâ??Farrill (1921-2001). â??Bebo and Chico, with many others like Mario Bauzá and Machito, forged a new vision of this music,â? Arturo said. â??We want to take their vision in new directions,â? he explained.
