"Panzerfaust" is a seminal album by the Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone, released in 1995 and now available in CD format from Peaceville Records. This record stands as one of the defining works of second-wave black metal, blending raw production with haunting riffs and an uncompromising atmosphere. "Panzerfaust" pays homage to early Bathory influences while maintaining Darkthrone's distinctive sound?icy, relentless, and fiercely authentic. The album features tracks that have become staples within the genre, such as "Quintessence" and "En Vind Av Sorg." Formed in 1986, Darkthrone has been pivotal in shaping extreme metal worldwide; their previous albums like "A Blaze In The Northern Sky," "Under A Funeral Moon," and "Transilvanian Hunger" are considered classics. Peaceville Records is renowned for its dedication to underground music scenes since the late '80s, supporting influential acts across doom, death, and black metal genres.
Darkthrone thinks it's up to this album. I hate to think about the later albums.

Along with A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon & Transilvanian Hunger, the band's strongest work. Releases 91 - 95 are simply the highest pantheon in the Black Metal world.

Overall, "Panzerfaust" could be described as Darkthrone's tribute to Celtic Frost. The mid-tempo and slow parts featured on this record are nearly identical to those found on Celtic Frost's debut album "Morbid Tales." However, this record is hardly slow, as Fenriz's frantic and drumming pound throughout the entire record. These faster parts of this record are the epitome of the Darkthrone sound. As a whole, "Panzerfaust" is an amazing genre-defining record.
