Description: | The latest release of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra presents three foremost Lithuanian composers who have greatly influenced evolution of the Lithuanian music. In the 1960-70s while still behind the soviet "iron curtain" Bronius Kutavicius kindled not only musical but also political awakening. After Lithuania regained it's independence in 1990, Osvaldas Balakauskas became the leading authority and the pinnacle of modern Lithuanian music. Like a barometer of social spiritual life Algirdas Martinaitis employs in his music codes of national identity as well as allusions to the European music of the past and present. The works of the aforementioned composers embrace a wide period of the development of Lithuanian music from the 1970s until a successful integration into a context of European contemporary music, and revisit relevant themes of national cultural uniqueness and versatility. |
