Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To - Spacemen 3 - Re-release, digitally re-mastered featuring Sonic Boom and Jason Pierce. The original appearance of Taking Drugs was in fact a bootleg on the semi-legendary/semi-notorious Father Yod imprint in 1990, later supplemented with contemporary outtakes and cuts for the Bomp reissue in 1994 and one further song for the Space Age version in 2000. The original seven tracks, dated January 1986 and the first recordings to feature Pete Bain on bass, are collectively known as the Northampton Demos. Both Sonic and Pierce have been on record as long preferring these takes to the eventual versions that surfaced for the most part on Sound of Confusion.
"Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs to" is a seminal compilation album by the influential British band Spacemen 3, presented here in CD format. This collection captures the raw and hypnotic essence of their early recordings from 1986, offering listeners an immersive journey through psychedelic rock, minimalism, and drone music. The tracks showcase Spacemen 3's signature sound: swirling guitars, trance-inducing rhythms, and introspective lyrics that defined a generation of alternative musicians. Released by Space Age Recordings / Cargo, this edition ensures high-quality audio fidelity for both longtime fans and new listeners alike. Spacemen 3 emerged in the mid-1980s as pioneers of neo-psychedelia and space rock. Founded by Jason Pierce (later known for Spiritualized) and Peter Kember (Sonic Boom), the band became renowned for their experimental approach to songwriting and production. Their influence can be traced across genres?from shoegaze to electronic music?and they are credited with inspiring countless artists worldwide. Albums like "The Perfect Prescription" cemented their legacy as cult icons within underground music circles. Space Age Recordings / Cargo is recognized for its dedication to preserving groundbreaking works from innovative artists in alternative and experimental genres.
