2018 studio album from the Swedish black metal band. Viktoria is a statement. A call to arms. An outburst of fury. A real black metal album. Marduk never bowed down, never wimped out, never compromised... and they prevailed. No other Swedish black metal band can look back at nearly three decades of spreading the gospel of death and the devil upon this world. The band formed in 1990 and released their first album in 1992. Morgan "Evil" Steinmeyer Håkansson remains the only original member since their formation. Their name is derived from the Babylonian god Marduk, patron deity of Babylon. Marduk's last album, Frontschwein, was released in 2015., Runningtime: 00:00:00, Labelcode CEN585043.2 (19075850432), Phonographic Copyright (p) Century Media Records Ltd., Copyright (c) Century Media Records Ltd., Licensed From Blooddawn Productions, Marketed By RED MUSIC (4), Distributed By RED MUSIC (4), Record Company Sony Music Entertainment
In music, Marduk are loyal to themselves and Nordically seasoned. All the same black flurry, interspersed with mid-tempo numbers and the clang of tracked tracks. The only exception to this creative pattern from the Swedes in their new job is Werwolf. The opener turned out to be frankly dunked in sound and makes an unusually deceptive impression. But already “June 44” and especially “Equestrian Bloodlust” about the 8th Cavalry Division of the SS “Florian Gayer” put everything in its place - before us is the same Marduk with a wall of drum blastbits and a high-speed guitar comb of Morgan. But, fuming with thick smoke, slowly and inevitably to the cries of Mortus: “Panzer VI - Tiger I!”, The brainchild of the Henschel concern is pointing its 88-mm gun at us. Perhaps the most striking song of the album was “Viktoria”, for which Alexey Rybnikov and Yuri Entin should drag the Swedes to court for plagiarism. For the vocals of vocalist Marduk: “VIK-TO-RI-YAAA!” To the pain in his teeth reminds the well-known to all Soviet children: “BU-RA-TI-NO!”. In general, if we compare “Viktoria” and “Frontschwein”, the fresh work loses to its predecessor both in timing, and in the persuasiveness of the atmosphere created, and in terms of sound density. After “Frontschwein" I expected a bit more, but the output was just another album Marduk. Not bad, professionally recorded, but not particularly impressive.

Finally!! After Frontschwein, Marduk continues with World War II themes. And I would say they did excellent job, again. My favorite song is June 44, but there's no weak songs here at all!
