Un DÃa Cualquiera, pianist Harold LÃ³pez-Nussa's second release for Mack Avenue Records, represents a musical vantage point with force and innovation. He tells this storyâ??his storyâ??with drama, heartfelt emotion and consummate skills. "Every time I return to Cuba, I feel something specialâ??not just a connection with my family and friends, but with the place itself. This is where my music comes from, what it talks about." For Un DÃa Cualquiera, LopÃ©z-Nussa sticks to his core trio, with his younger brother Ruy AdriÃ¡n LÃ³pez-Nussa on drums and percussion, and bassist Gaston Joyaâ??a group the pianist first convened a decade ago in Cuba. Harold LÃ³pez-Nussa's music reflects the full range and richness of Cuban music, with its distinctive combination of classical, folkloric and popular elements, as well as its embrace of jazz improvisation and interaction. LÃ³pez-Nussa chose the new album's title, which means "Just Another Day," because, he said, "the idea is to put the music and the trio together in a studio and just play, the way we three do every day, any dayâ??like a concert in the living room of your house." -

Fans of Cuban pianist Harold López-Nussa's 2016 disc, El Viaje (Mack Avenue), certainly should check out his new album on the same label: Un Día Cualquiera. The title of the previous disc translates to The Journey, and on this new outing, his artistic evolution continues - but in a trio setting. He recorded the album at Boston's WGBH Studios with his younger brother Ruy Adrian Harold López-Nussa (drums, percussion) and Gaston Joya (bass). The album's title translates to Just Another Day, and in press materials, Harold explains the title's significance: "The idea is to put the music and the trio together in a studio and just play, the way we three do every day, any day-like a concert in the living room of your house."
