Born in England, Annie Ross (1930- 2020) was one of the early practitioners of a singing style known as vocalese, which involves the setting of original lyrics to an instrumental jazz solo. She is best remembered for her participation in a vocal trio with Dave Lambert and Jon Hendricks.
