Igor G. - 10.05.2019 Released in 2018 by Demon Music Group (UK), “Gold” is the 45-track compilation on 3 discs by the kings of British Glam Rock movement, Marc Bolan (1947-1977) and his T. REX. It spans the period from 1968 to 1977, and also features some songs from the acoustic psyche-folk period when the band were a duo of Marc Bolan and Steve Peregrin Took bearing the full name of TYRANNOSAURUS REX. The compilation brings together all greatest hits of Marc Bolan & T. Rex in perfectly re-mastered quality including their four UK #1 hits “Hot Love”, “Get It On”, “Telegram Sam”, and “Metal Guru”, as well as all time classics such as “Deborah”, “One Inch Rock”, “Ride A White Swan”, “Cosmic Dancer”, “Jeepster”, “Children Of The Revolution”, “20th Century Boy”, “The Groover”, etc. In other words, “Gold” is a genuinely representative and substantive collection. But there are a couple of things to consider. First, released in an elegant 6-panel gatefold, this compilation doesn’t contain any informative credits, references, or a booklet with the compiler’s notes. Second, clocking in at about 144 minutes in total, “Gold” could easily fit only 2 discs. I don’t mind 3 discs for such improbable price of course, but still I would prefer the same set but on 2 discs and with a multipage booklet (somewhat in the style of CD-compilations by Union Square Music). Anyway, “Gold” is an enjoyable compilation and definitely worth its money.
