Description: | Baron Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen and his red Fokker Dreidecker made history in World War I. The Fokker Dr. I was introduced in June 1917 on the Western Front and only after a long test phase and with the approval of the pilot Manfred von Richthofen obtained the approval of the General Staff. The Dr. I was the most nimble of all the aircraft used and reached high climbing speeds. With the Oberusel star engine (power 110 hp), the Dr. I reached a top speed of 193 km/h and was able to climb to 3000 m in 6 minutes. Two Spandau-MG's were installed in front of the pilot's pulpit. All the pilots of the group around Richthofen flew red three-deckers. At the end of 1917, Dr. I was withdrawn from the Western Front, but the red baron continued to fly this type, scoring a total of 80 shots before being shot down in April 1918.
