Description:The OM4 fiber is a 50 micron optimized fiber with extended bandwidth. It is used to improve system performance for existing 1 and 10 Gb/s applications, as well as future 40 and 100 Gb/s applications. The OM4 fiber supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel and OIF applications, for longer ranges of over 550m at 10Gbps and for extremely long building backbones and medium-length campus backbones. With an effective modal bandwidth (EMB, also called laser bandwidth) of 4700 MHz km (more than double the IEEE requirement for 10 Gb/s with 300 meter support), the OM4 fiber is also particularly well suited for shorter ranges in data centers, as well as for high performance computing applications. When used at low data rates such as 100 Mbps or 1Gb/s, the OM4 is the same as OM2 or OM3 fibers. The OM4 fiber plays to its true strengths at data rates of 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s with ranges of 550m and 300m respectively. All ROLINE OM4 fiber optic cables are available as duplex cables
