I think Mingus was the greatest composer in jazz. The thing that trouble me is his music is gradually being forgotten. I hang out with a lot of musicians and I am a musician, so when people talk about jazz they always talk about Miles, Coltrane, Bird, Wes, Herbie etc, rarely anybody mentions Mingus. I'm aware that people move on and only the most popular/successful artists stand the test of time, but Mingus is so so freaking good, I cry, laugh, get pumped up, meditate when I listen to his albums. His music has unparalleld orchestration, really great solos, awesome melodies, great groove, and his band has the energy of thousand freight trains all going full speed at the same time, engines on full throttle. I'm just inspire by his music...
