The vast majority of tracks 1-13 were recorded between Sponge?s ?Wax Ecstatic? album and the yet to be named third Sponge album. The recording environment was extremely raw but effective. So raw that when legendary A&R giant John Kalodner (of Aerosmith, Black Crowes and Foreigner fame) who was hired by Sony to work the album, stopped by the studio for a visit along with then Sponge manager Susan Silver, John immediately walked out being unprotected from the insane volume and cats necessary to the recording process. These tracks were pulled from the vault after 20 years and transferred from the tape they were recorded on to the digital format. It became obvious that the tracks that were of no use at the time now offer the listener an audio snapshot of the band?s creative mindset from 20 years ago. What is presented is unpretentious, raw rock and roll for no other reason than for the sake of making music against the backdrop of the greatest music city in the world.........DETROIT. |
