Description:

With her new recording "Night Music" Dorothee Oberlinger presents the many different and fascinating facets of the night with various examples of night music from Europe. Pivotal to this recording are the works by Antonio Vivaldi such as the concerto RV 104 "La Notte", the concerto RV 270 "Il Riposo", the serenata "La Senna Festeggiante" and the concerto in C minor RV 441. Oberlinger prefaced each of this pieces with a nocturnal prelude. Between Vivaldi's works are songs, diminutions, motets, madrigals, sommeils and chaconnes from Spain, the Netherlands, France, England, Italy, Germany and Austria as bridges and interludes. They tell of brilliant celebrations, nocturnal love dramas and desires, tender lullabies, ghosts, birds of the night and the most holy of nights. And they form a European kaleidoscope of very different night music. These include rarities such as a Sephardic lullaby "Nani Nani" from medieval Spain, a song by Fratre Gerardo from Venice of 16th century "L'altra nocte m'insomniava", Jacob van Eyckâ??s variations on the English song The Nightingale, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber's Ciacona from his famous serenade â??The Night Watchmanâ? and the enchanting "Sommeil", a sleeping scene from Jean-Baptiste Lully's tragÃ©die mis en musique "Atys". For her journey through the night, Dorothee Oberlinger is accompanied again by the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, her closest musical companions and the specialists for the Venetian repertoire. This inspiring album ends with a very special track which is dedicated by Luigi Mangiocavallo (born 1959) to the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca: An arrangement of Thelonious Monk's timeless jazz number "Round Midnight" (1944) - as a tribute to the genre-crossing power of music. - SONATORI DE LA GIOIOSA MARCA
