Description: | Jazzmuseo (ā?¯jazz museumā?¯) had their first concert at Emil Aaltonen Museum (Tampere, Finland) in February 2012. Arto Piispanen had played at the museum earlier with different artists, such as Masa Orpana, and the museum began to plan a series of jazz concerts. Piispanen, Orpana, Ville Rauhala and Lauri Hannula started working on the project. Jazzmuseo has had six concerts a year, and each concert has had a specific theme.
Since the beginning the concerts have almost always been sold out. The Coltrane themed concert in the spring of 2016 was so popular that they performed the show two nights in a row. Some of the concerts have had guest artists.
The thought of a concert recording had been stirring for a long time, and finally the album was recorded at different concerts in the spring of 2018. The unique acoustics of the concert space and the typical features of Jazzmuseo had to be taken into account when planning the repertoire of the album.
The material consists of original compositions of the artists, as well as previously unreleased material. Together the songs form a solid musical selection. The recording and mixing of the album was done by Markus Pajakkala. He had worked for years with the artists, and his role in terms of the whole album was significant. - Jazzmuseu (The Jazz Museum) is a jazz band founded in Tampere in 2012. The band includes saxophonist Masa Orpana, guitarist Lauri Hannu, pianist Arto Piispanen, and bassist Ville Rauhala. The band first appeared by the players' names, but later became known as Jassmuseo. Concerts are themed, such as the "spirits and jazz encounters" concert which produced a 2014 live recording album "Live in Kangasala." The record was recorded in 2013 at Kangasala over two concerts. This album is the second release from the band. It was recorded live in Pyynikinlinja, and includes mostly compositions from the band's own members.Recorded at Pyynikinlinna Museum on 7 February 2018 [4], 15 March 2018 [1,5,6,8,9], 4 April 2018 [2,3,7,10]. |
