Dazu haben sie selbst einen großen Teil beigetragen.
Ende der 70ger bis in die 9oer Jahre hinein hatten sie diverse Charthits, davon viele Balladen und alle stark beeinträchtigt von dem typischen Weichspül-/Synthi-Sound dieser Zeit.
Was aber fast immer bei diese Band überhört wird, sind die vielen, mehr oder weniger auf jedem Album versteckten Losgeh-Rocker: voller Energie, tollen Arrangements und einprägsamen Melodien.
Ihr volles Potenzial zeigen Speedwagon aber in den auch auf dieser Kollektion reichlich vorhandenen Live-Aufnahmen.
Was hier an Spielfreude, instrumentalem Können (Leadgitarre!) und Power `rüberkommt wird in diesem Genre (AOR, Rock/Pop) vielleicht noch von Journey erreicht.
Ich hatte seinerzeit auch meine Vorbehalte gegen diese Band.
Einiges an ihrem Output ist nach wie vor für mich nur schwer erträglich.
Aber, Mann, mit dieser Box, wie auch mit der vorangegangenen, die die (erfolglose) Frühphase dokumentiert, gibt es einiges zu entdecken und neu zu bewerten!
