“Flesh & Blood”, to be honest, is listening to bug fixes. And now David and his musicians do not fall into the desire to scold production material to the state of a telegraph pole, since such an approach brought the success of the album “1987”. But now it’s far from 1987, the general public has different music in honor - therefore, one has to maneuver between the “jeans” and the American period of the group’s existence. But this tacking is more noticeable precisely in the nature of the material - by the sound of “Flesh & Blood” it is trying to be frankly technocratic. However, those who attended Whitesnake concerts in Russia in the fall of 2015 will not be surprised at this: at those performances the group sounded accurate and dense, almost like the Dream Theater - what a blues! Nevertheless, the trouble-free formula-1987 unexpectedly works well in combination with overturning into the “jeans” past, which is perfectly demonstrated by the opening play “Good To See You Again” and the straightforward rock and roll “Get Up”, written as if not later than 1982. Although most of the new material with its straightforwardness and hit “swing” certainly goes back to “1987”, the album also found a place for actually pop material (in the eighteenth sense of the term) - such a simple singing track “Always & Forever” and the half ballad “When I Think Of You (Color Me Blue). ” There are no Whitesnake albums without a ballad about great feelings, but this time David climbs into acoustic territories, well mastered by the latest archive release of the band “Unzipped” (2018), and it is possible that the number “After All” became generally one of the best ballads, written by David throughout his life and career. It is natural that “Flesh & Blood” crowns the real hymn “Sands Of Time” - because if we do not wait for the next Whitesnake album, we will certainly remember the group that we are used to and what it should be. Namely - loud and certainly proud.
