Alexander S. - 23/Feb/2020 5 of 5 Stars!
This time, Steven Patrick Morrissey, "the timeless voice of these hopeless times" (she says so in the booklet for this very disc!), Presents an album of cover versions of little-known American songs. Of the more or less big names, there is only Bob Dylan da Roy Orbison, but then all the rank is recorded - in Los Angeles and with a prominent producer Joe Chicarelli. In principle, nothing special is in either "California Son", nor in the originals of these songs, but Moz is so special in itself that the album listens very well. Each cover got a bit of artistry and English style, plus (of course!) Its unique vocals. And in general, it is extremely rare to hear Morrissey without his signature, caustic satire and caustic social texts; "CS" is a summer album with the mood to match its name. Only a little out of the general is the sad “Lenny's Tune”, and the first three tracks are the best, as well as the cheerful “Wedding Bell Blues”. But the next album, of course, would be more desirable than "California Son".
