Description:Originally released in 1961, this is Grant Greenâ??s debut album, â??Grantâ??s First Standâ?? still ranks as one of his greatest pure Soul Jazz outings, a set of killer grooves laid down by the hard-swinging organ trio Green, organist Baby Face Willette and drummer Ben Dixon. Recorded at the van Gelder Studio, New Jersey. Green displays his unique bop phrasing to fine effect on his high-octane opener, â??Miss Annâ??s Tempoâ??, and Willetteâ??s â??Babyâ??s Minor Lopeâ??. The two standards â??Lullaby of the Leavesâ?? and â?? â??Tainâ??t Nobodyâ??s Bizness If I Doâ?? are given smoky treatments soaked in Bluesy, late-night atmosphere. - .. STAND/ 1961 ALBUM / BLUE NOTE DEBUTS ON 180GR. VINYL
Vinyl LP pressing. Had organist Baby Face Willette stayed in New York and on track, Grant Green, Willette, and Ben Dixon would have become one of the premier organ trios in jazz. From the first note of "Miss Ann's Tempo, " they establish a groove, and swing like hell through two standards and four originals. This may have been Grant Green's debut album, but all three of these musicians share equal responsibility in this magnificent January 28, 1961 date, remastered by original recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder from the original analog masters.
