| Description: | Thomas Dausgaard and the Seattle Symphony return with inspiring and powerful performances of works rooted in the fascination with the Antichrist. For Langgaard it became his opera, Antichrist, which was also the original title for Strauss' An Alpine Symphony. Coupling Langgaard's Prelude to Antichrist with Strauss' An Alpine Symphony, this album explores the composers' disparate ideological interpretations of the Antichrist in expansive, thought-provoking live performances, superbly played by the Seattle Symphony. With naturalistic imaging, depth of field and dynamic range, all Seattle Symphony Media recordings have been engineered to audiophile standards and aim to capture as realistically as possible the sound of the orchestra performing on the Benaroya Hall stage.Recorded in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium, Benaroya Hall, Seattle, Washington. Langgaard's Prelude to Antichrist was recorded live in concert April 4, 6 and 7, 2019. Strauss' An Alpine Symphony was recorded live in concert June 15 and 17, 2017.
Both Langgaard's Prelude to Antichrist and Stauss' An Alpine Symphony were presented as part of the Delta Air Lines Masterwoks Season. The performances of Langgaard's Prelude to Antichrist were sponsored by Seattle Symphony 2018 GiveBIG supporters.
Thomas Dausgaard's performances on April 4, 6 and 7, 2019 received additional support from the Scan|Design Foundation by Inger & Jens Bruun. His performances on June 15 and 17, 2017 were generously underwritten by Leona Pazina and Susan Pazina, in memory of Robert Pazina, through the Seattle Symphony's Guest Artists Circle.
The credits indicate that:
- The second assistant concertmaster acted as concertmaster on Strauss.
- The associate principal flute acted as principal flute on Strauss.
- The assistant principal timpani acted as principal timpani on Strauss.
- Matthew Decker acted as concertmaster on Strauss. Presumably this was intended to mean principal percussion.
James Holt received a photography credit in the booklet, but none of the individual photos in the booklet are attributed to James Holt. |
