Description: | Jutta Hipp with Zoot Sims is an album by German jazz pianist Jutta Hipp recorded in 1956.
The total effect to be observed on these two sides is similar to what you would experience if you happened to drop in one night at Basin Street. The same laissez-souffler (or man, let's blow) spirit; the same concentration on individual expression. If fact, everything is there but the audience applause; it only remains to be hoped that you'll feel like providing it yourself. - .. ZOOT SIMS / 180GR. / REID MILES COVERS SERIE PRT.1Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. German Jazz pianist Jutta Hipp remains one of the most intriguing yet little known figures in Blue Note history. A unique and shortlived presence on the NYC Jazz scene in the mid-1950s, Hipp moved to the U.S. with the aid of critic Leonard Feather and recorded a series of Blue Note releases that culminated with Jutta Hipp with Zoot Sims, a sublime date with the feeling of high level blowing session featuring tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims, trumpeter Jerry Lloyd, bassist Ahmed Abdul Malik, and drummer Ed Thigpen. Highlights of the set including the uptempo opener "Just Blues" and the gorgeous ballad "Violets for Your Furs," and the album-which features a seminal graphic cover design by Reid Miles-turned out to be her final recording as Hipp left the music scene shortly thereafter.Recorded July 28, 1956
Originally released in 1957
"Jutta Hipp With Zoot Sims" is a classic LP that captures the unique collaboration between German jazz pianist Jutta Hipp and American tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims. Released by the legendary Blue Note label, this 1956 recording stands as one of the most celebrated sessions in post-war jazz history. The album features an energetic interplay between Hipp?s lyrical piano style and Sims? swinging, melodic saxophone lines, supported by a stellar rhythm section. Tracks like "Just Blues" and "Wee Dot" showcase both artists at their creative peak, blending European sophistication with American jazz tradition. Blue Note Records, founded in 1939, is renowned for its commitment to high-quality recordings and has been home to many of the greatest names in jazz such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Herbie Hancock. Jutta Hipp was one of Europe?s pioneering female jazz pianists who made her mark on the New York scene before retiring early from music; Zoot Sims was known for his smooth tone and work with legends like Stan Kenton and Gerry Mulligan. |
