Description:Tracing relationships, exploring the unknown, and hearing the familiar through unusual combinations: Experiencing music with Thomas Hengelbrock and his Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble means participating in a dialogue and embarking on a musical expedition with the conductor and the musicians. The album begins with Schubert's Stabat Mater from 1815 - his first musical setting based on the Latin text of "Stabat Mater dolorosa" in G Minor D 175, for which Schubert relied only on the first four verses of the poem, each of which is repeated. The insistent brief reflection of the image of the Mother of God, overwhelmed by the deepest anguish as she stands at the feet of her crucified son, is followed by Schubert's Symphony No. 7 in B Minor, written seven years later and commonly known as the "Unfinished". Schubert created one of the most unusual symphonies in the history of music with his Seventh Symphony, which included two tremendous first two movements and was not performed to the end. The recording ends with Schumann's Missa sacra in C minor op. 147, which the composer wrote at the same time as a Requiem in his last years in Düsseldorf. Schumann did not live to attend the actual first performance, which finally took place in 1861 in the presence of his widow, Clara Schumann. Clara Schumann wrote enthusiastically to Johannes Brahms: â??You canâ??t believe how beautiful it all sounded. The Kyrie is profoundly moving and is very much a unified whole, while in the Sanctus there are individual passages that are so wonderfully effective in terms of their use of sonority that it really makes your spine tingle.â? - ..
