Cruelty And The Beast's remix and remaster was handled by Grindstone Studio's Scott Atkins. Singer Dani Filth comments: "Released on the 5th of May, around the same time as we were arrested at the Vatican, Cruelty And The Beast had been a painstaking labor of love, a year of intense writing amid ever growing popularity and distraction. The album's concept of the Hungarian blood countess Elizabeth Bathory - both historically astute and fictionally correct - was to become a dangerous obsession of mine and one that saw many a first light of dawn working on the lyrics, hellbent on making the story worthy of her legend." Cradle of Filth's musical style evolved originally from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic metal and other metal genres. Their lyrical themes and imagery are heavily influenced by Gothic literature, poetry, mythology and horror films.Remixed and remastered edition.
Issued in a standard jewel case with a clear tray and a twenty-four page booklet.
Some copies pre-ordered directly from the bands webstore included a free cover artwork print (DIN A4) signed by Dani Filth in gold marker.

Alexander S. - 14/Jan/2020 CoF is commonly called Vampire Gothic Black Metal. If you consider the Gothic Lacrimosa, black Darthrone, then imagine CoF as something between them does not work out. The originality of this music lies in the fact that it is often loved by people who miss the releases of the aforementioned teams, far from the ideology of both black and gothic. Pops? Not so simple. When listening to this disc, I have mixed feelings - on the one hand, the desire to scream childishly "CoF - megarulez forever!" and on the other, the realization of an almost complete emptiness in terms of content and ideas. There is no cold malice true black and the sublime beauty of the gothic masterpieces. The reoriented composition structure is similar to that of Dimmu Borgir after "EDT" - the melodies are beautiful and complex, but almost never remembered and contain nothing fundamentally new. And the atmosphere when listening creates some kind of chaotic, chaotic. But you begin to think about all this only a few hours after the end of the sound of the record, before that only “this is a masterpiece of all time” revolves in your head. For this, I appreciate CoF, with all the inner emptiness of their music (I know this phrase can cause a lot of attacks, there are people who claim the deep philosophical nature of the work of Cannibal Corpse) they can cause real delight and admiration for their work, and this one is the best on date. Album cover artwork is the best on the metal scene after the works of Travis Smith. But it’s a pity that the anger on this album is somehow fake, because the energy invested is sufficient to transmit a powerful charge of vivacity to the listener. The main thing is not to combine this work with something truly serious, and not to compare.
| | Athanasios B. - 04/Dec/2019 The COF classic finally is released with the sound that really deserves. The new mix adds a lot to the songs and makes a new experience for the listener. NECESSARY even if you have the 1st edition in your collection.
