Description: | A fiber has a diameter including coating of exactly 125µm. The ferrule in the plug has a hole for this diameter. During the manufacturing process, the fiber is pushed into this small hole, glued to the ferrule and then ground. The larger this hole is, the more room for the fiber to move around. We only use ferrules with a maximum bore of 125.5 µm in our assemblies. Our fiber therefore has a maximum margin of 0.5 µm. These ferrules are specially selected because only a few meet these requirements. The ferrules with larger tolerances are of course simpler and much larger quantities to produce and are therefore cheaper, but with much larger holes. The standard ferrules from most suppliers on the market have tolerances of 128.5µm +/- 1µm. A simple calculation example is enough to explain how negative this can have in practice. Singlemode has a core diameter of 9µm. |
