Description:Bruckner's Second, like most of his symphonies, underwent numerous changes and revisions during the composer's lifetime, in this case on the advice of his patron, Hofkapellmeister Herbeck, before the first publication by Bruckner himself, "so as not to overwhelm the audience". The sheet music of the very first 'unheard' version lies in the archive of the Sankt Florian Abbey, from which the prominent Bruckner researcher William Carragan reconstructed the first untouched version of this great symphony. This version is presented as live recording from the Bruckner Tage 2019 with the Altomonte Orchestra under the baton of Remy Ballot.
"Symphonie II" in the SACD+CD format is a remarkable recording by conductor Rémy Ballot and the Altomonte Orchester, released by Gramola. This album presents an immersive interpretation of Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 2, capturing both the grandeur and subtlety of this monumental work. The hybrid SACD+CD format ensures audiophiles can enjoy superior sound quality on any system. Rémy Ballot has established himself as one of today's leading interpreters of Bruckner, acclaimed for his profound musical insight and meticulous attention to detail. Under his direction, the Altomonte Orchester delivers a performance that is both powerful and nuanced, further cementing their reputation in classical music circles. Gramola, founded in Vienna in 1924, is renowned for its dedication to high-quality recordings and its support for exceptional artists across generations.
