The new disc of the genius composer and performer Mike Hadreas "Set My Heart on Fire Immediately", the founder of one of the most sophisticated formations of our time, the Perfume Genius project, was released on May 15, 2020 on the Matador label, as a continuation of his previous sensational disc "No Shape" 2017 ... Mike Hadreas himself calls "Set My Heart on Fire Immediately" a danceable and self-paced recording, and also says that "now the songs tell stories based on real events and about real people." He mentioned Townes Van Zandt, Enya and Cocteau Twins as influences on the new disc. The album contains many completely unexpected echoes, noises and sounds, sometimes animals, sometimes people, sometimes of unknown nature, giving rise to an absolutely mystical, exciting and at the same time very natural feeling. Vaping between ambient, new age and noise effects in "Jason", "Leave" or "One More Try", the recording smoothly transitions into quiet but heartbreaking tragedies "Whole Life" and "Without You", culminating in such non-categorized works like "On the Floor" and "Nothing at All". "Set My Heart on Fire Immediately" is a refined exploration of the deepest human experiences and problems of the modern world through the prism of beauty and drama torn at your fingertips like a spider web from a gentle breeze, but this time an amazing solidity and even some kind of special confidence and strength that raised this work to status, perhaps the best of the year, and maybe in the entire career of Mike Hadreas.
