Mit "Born Again" verÃ¶ffentlicht die kanadische Emo-Dream-Pop-KÃ¼nstlerin Ellis auf Fat Possum ihr DebÃ¼t-Album. Die aus Ontario stammende Singer-Songwriterin Linnea Siggelkow startete ihr Musikprojekt Ellis im Jahr 2017 und verÃ¶ffentlichte seitdem eine EP mit dem Titel "The Fuzz". Zentraler Dreh- und Angelpunkt des Albums ist ihre Suche nach persÃ¶nlicher IdentitÃ¤t und einem neuen Bewusstsein fÃ¼r sich selbst, nachdem sie ihre christlich geprÃ¤gte Jugend mit Beginn ihres Studiums hinter sich lieÃ?. Ihre Songs zeugen von schmerzhaften VerÃ¤nderungen, der Suche nach Orientierung, Halt und der eigenen PersÃ¶nlichkeit vor dem Hintergrund der grundlegend verÃ¤nderten Weltsicht. Diese Themen zentriert Ellis in 10 sanften Dream-Pop-Songs. Mit eleganten Gitarren- und Pianoparts entfaltet sich ein besonders eindringliches Klangspektrum, welches im Zusammenspiel mit Ellis' emotional heterogenen Vocals in einem bewegenden musikalischen Kunstwerk kulminiert. -

Produced by Jake Aron (Snail Mail, Solange, Grizzly Bear) and recorded partly at Aron's Brooklyn studio, Born Again arrives as the follow-up to Ellis's debut EP The Fuzz-a self-released, self-produced effort that promptly led to a deal with Fat Possum Records. In a departure from the viscerally charged dream-pop of The Fuzz, Born Again unfolds with a mesmerizing subtlety, gracefully spotlighting Ellis's unhurried melodies, starkly confessional lyrics, and the luminous vocal work she's shown in opening for artists like Soccer Mommy and Alvvays.
