The answer is that new breakthroughs in the field of digital spectral editing have made it much easier to separate voices and drums and other elements in mono recordings.
As a result, our engineers can use this cutting-edge technology to essentially disassemble mono recordings and remix them into true stereo. Many hours and a lot of finesse is required, but when these elements are separated, they can be equalized individually in a way that wasn't previously possible.
