Extra-Infos: Royal Liverpool P.o./ Vasily Petrenko/ Kathryn Rudge
Description:Vasily Petrenko and the RLPO continue their critically acclaimed Elgar project with Sea Pictures and The Music Makers, with Kathryn Rudge as soloist. Sea Pictures is one of the composerâ??s most popular works and as an orchestral song cycle stands alongside those by Mahler and Strauss. The Music Makers however has had a more troubled history. Elgar had worked on it on and off from 1903 and it was premiered in 1912. Both words and music came in for criticism. Elgar quotes from his symphonies, and â??Nimrodâ?? as well as other sources. It can be viewed in the same way as â??Ein Heldenlebenâ??â?? though here the composer is not a hero, but a bard. It is a personal work and Elgar wrote on the manuscript "This is the best of me; for the rest, I ate, and drank, and slept, loved and hated, like another. My life was as the vapour, and is not; but this I saw, and knew; this, if anything of mine, is worth your memory." - ROYAL LIVERPOOL P.O./VASILY PETRENKO/KATHRYN RUDGE
The CD "Sea Pictures op.37/The Music Makers op.69" features two of Edward Elgar's most evocative and beloved works, performed by the acclaimed conductor Vasily Petrenko, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote Rudge, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir. "Sea Pictures," a song cycle for contralto and orchestra, captures the majesty and mystery of the sea through lush orchestration and poetic texts. "The Music Makers" is a choral ode celebrating artists' creative spirit with rich harmonies and stirring melodies. This recording stands out for its emotional depth, clarity of interpretation, and superb sound quality typical of Onyx releases. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Petrenko has garnered international praise for their dynamic performances and award-winning recordings across major classical labels. Onyx Classics is renowned for producing high-quality classical music albums featuring world-class artists in outstanding acoustics.
