Sie begannen als eine von Glam Rock inspirierte Band, entwickelten ihren Sound jedoch so, dass sie elektronische Musik und Art Rock-Einflüsse einbezogen und schlie�lich Einfluss auf die New Romantic-Szene der 1980er Jahre in Gro�britannien nahmen, obwohl die Band selbst kein Teil davon war.
Japan war Ende der 1970er und Anfang der 1980er Jahre erfolgreich und veröffentlichte neun britische Top-40-Hits, darunter die 1982er Top-5-Hit-Single "Ghosts" und ein britisches Top-5-Live-Album Oil on Canvas (1983). Sie trennten sich im Dezember 1982, als sie anfingen, kommerziellen Erfolg in Gro�britannien und im Ausland zu erleben.
Dieses Set wurde im Dezember 1982 im Budokan in Tokio aufgenommen, fünf Tage vor Tourende. Die Band hatte sich mit dem Yellow Magic Orchestra angefreundet, das sich ihnen bei einigen Songs hier anschloss - â??Bamboo Musicâ?? ist ein Duett mit Akiko Yano und â??Taking Islands In Africaâ?? mit Yukihiro Takahashi. Ryuichi Sakamoto spielt auch auf diesen Tracks. - .. FM, 1982Two CDs. Japan was an English new wave band formed in London in 1974 by David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steve Jansen (drums), Richard Barbieri (keyboards) and Mick Karn (bass guitar). They started out as a glam rock-inspired band but developed their sound to incorporate electronic music and art rock influences, eventually becoming an influence on the 1980s New Romantic scene in the UK, although the band themselves were not a part of it. This set was recorded at The Budokan, Tokyo in December 1982 and was their fifth from last show on that tour. The band had become friends with Yellow Magic Orchestra who joined them on some of the performances here - "Bamboo Music" is a duet featuring Akiko Yano, and "Taking Islands In Africa" features Yukihiro Takahashi.
